As a player, Pat O'Dwyer won three President's Cup silver medals.

He'd like nothing more than to win gold as a general manager.

O'Dwyer narrowly missed winning the Canadian Senior B Lacrosse championship with the Nanaimo Timbermen (twice) and the Burnaby Lakers during his playing career.

He'll take another run at the title starting in May as general manager of the Senior B T-Men.

O'Dwyer took the GM position to honour his late friend Mac Maude, who served in the same position with the Senior B squad for several seasons and later filled a similar capacity with the Senior A squad.

O'Dwyer admits to knowing little about the ins and outs of team management but is familiar with what it takes to be successful. "I was never really a political player on the floor, It was pretty cut and dry for me," he said. "I do understand the game. I have a passion to continue in lacrosse past my playing days. That's pretty much my motivation."

O'Dwyer played for almost 20 seasons of senior lacrosse, starting in 1988. He played a physical style, often getting his nose into altercations. He was also a decent offensive player, scoring 31 goals in the 2004 season to finish third in league scoring.

T-Men president Clive Stocks says O'Dwyer has the managerial skills for the job.

"It's a new step in his lacrosse life," said Stocks. "He brings a lot of experience to the table. He had a wealth of knowledge of the West Coast league and a lot of enthusiasm. The executive is a ecstatic." This figures to be a championship-calibre season for the Senior B squad. Though he wouldn't name names, O'Dwyer hinted there will be some recognizable names wearing T-Men colours this season.

"It's going to be a local team, specifically from Nanaimo and Vancouver Island," said O'Dwyer. "We'd rather have the local boys playing rather than anything else. I think we've been watching the game slip away from Nanaimo a little bit. We really want to develop our game here. "The team on paper looks like a President's Cup contender, for sure. There's no doubt in my mind, but putting that together . . . is a different story."
